Camp Doglando S1: Monday W2

Hi Honorary Campers,

TGIM: start of a brand new week, new beginning and the introduction of a new dog.  Diamond, our PRBJ dog was heartworm positive and was unable to handle swimming and long walks.  That is where Charlie comes in.  A playful Collie mix, the perfect match for Calista.

We started the day with gate exercises and cradling.

Around 9:30 we were ready to head to Orange County Public Library where we participated in an amazing scavenger hunt.

We crossed Colonial and had lunch and some sweet ice cream at Twisty Treat.
Upon our return to Doglando we sparked some creativity with painting before we jumped back into training.
We worked on offleash recall and bed exercises.

To finish the day we went outside and played with the dogs.

Camp Doglando S1: Saturday

Hi Honorary Campers,

We arrived at Tractor Supply at 9:30.  After finishing setting up we started talking about the proper introductions, public etiquette and the necessary information about the dogs that had to be shared.
It would not be truly a learning experience unless we trained the dogs in the store.  Each campers took their own dogs and another for a walk in the store.  dogs experienced new smells, strange people and different handlers.

For such a job well done we took the campers to Twisty Treat and had some ice cream to cool down.
Have a great weekend.

Your Camp Counselors,

Teena, Summer and Casey

Camp Doglando S1: Friday

Hello Honorary Campers,

Today we took the dogs out for their first walk on Colonial.  We worked on our leash walking, automatic sits and we did fun things such as Indian runs.

We had our friend Dr. Jackson from East Orange Animal Hospital come by and talk to the kids more about the health and taking care of a dog.

We redid most of our bandannas.

We discussed how to get a dog to sit and release and more about considerations about adoptions and finding the right home for the dogs.

After lunch we headed to the pool where we continued on building confidence in the dogs.  We also had rat, lab and human races...

 Have a great weekend campers,
Teena, Summer, Casey and Dean

Camp Doglando S1: Thursday

Hi Honorary Campers,

You know that summer is here when you sweat at 8AM.  Today campers swiftly finished their chores, cradled their dogs and went for a short walk.  First time with the Pet Rescue by Judy dogs.

We packed the bus and headed to West Orlando to visit Canine Companions for Independence facility.
On the way back we stopped at Lake Eola for lunch and headed for a short walk around the lake.
It would not be a summer camp without some pool time.
